Colors — your shop palette, your customers' brand colors, and the full Wraptones library

Who it's for

Designers reach for Colors constantly — to grab a customer's exact brand colors, pull a shop house color, or browse the Wraptones library for the right vinyl shade. The owner or manager curates the shop's standard palette. Production staff use the CMYK and Pantone values to match prints, but the built-in Production role does not hold the Colors permission — add it to the role if your printer operator needs the library. It's the single source of truth for "what color is that, exactly?"

Where it fits

Colors supports the design and production stages — choosing and matching colors before and during a wrap. It lives inside WrapStudio, in the same hub as the design tools that use the colors. See workflow-map.md and personas.md.

Overview

Colors is a tab of the WrapStudio hub. Inside it are three sub-tabs, each a different kind of color library:

  • Shop Colors — your shop's own house palette. The colors you use again and again, each with a name, hex value, CMYK breakdown, and an optional Pantone reference. Add, edit, and delete them here.
  • Brand Colors — colors saved against specific customers. When you do repeat work for a business, you store their exact brand colors here so every job matches. Grouped by customer, searchable across the whole shop.
  • Wraptones — a built-in catalog of 2,620 named wrap colors with hex and CMYK values. Search it, filter by color family, favorite the ones you use, and download a .ase swatch file to load into your design software.

Every color shows a swatch and copyable values, so matching and reusing colors is quick and accurate.

Screens & navigation

Colors (/studio?tab=colors) Open WrapStudio in the sidebar, then pick the Colors tab. On a phone, WrapStudio is in the bottom bar or the More sheet. Older /colors links still work — they redirect to this tab.

WrapStudio's other tabs (Design, Showcase, Convert, Promote) only appear if you hold their permissions. If Colors is the only one you have, Colors is the only tab you see and the hub opens straight on it.

The Colors tab opens on Shop Colors. Switching sub-tabs updates the address (?view=shop, ?view=brand, ?view=wraptones), so you can link straight to one.

  • Shop Colors — a grid of your shop's saved colors. Add sits at the top right; hover a swatch for the pencil (edit) and trash (delete) buttons. Click any value under a swatch to copy it.
  • Brand Colors — a search box, a count line reading "N colors across M clients", and an Add Color button. Colors are grouped under a heading per customer, with an Add link on each group.
  • Wraptones — a search box, family pills, an export toolbar, and a dense swatch grid.

Capabilities

Shop Colors

  • Add a color: name, hex, CMYK (C/M/Y/K), and an optional Pantone code.
  • Edit any saved shop color.
  • Delete a shop color — it goes immediately, with no confirmation step.
  • Copy a color's hex, CMYK string, or Pantone code with one click.
  • New colors are added to the end of the grid. There is no drag-to-reorder.

Brand Colors

  • Add a brand color tied to a specific customer (customer, name, hex, CMYK, optional Pantone).
  • Browse every customer's brand colors in one place, grouped by customer name.
  • Search across names, hex values, Pantone codes, and customer names.
  • Copy hex, CMYK, or Pantone values.
  • Editing and deleting a brand color happen on the customer's own record, not here.

Brand colors and brand assets (logos, etc.) for a customer are also managed from that customer's record. The Colors tab gives you a shop-wide view and a fast way to add them.

Wraptones

  • Browse 2,620 named wrap colors.
  • Search by name.
  • Filter by color family: All, Reds, Oranges, Yellows, Greens, Blues, Purples, Pinks, Neutrals.
  • Star colors to mark them as favorites, then filter to Favorites.
  • Click a swatch to copy its hex. Hover it to see the name, hex, and CMYK values.
  • Download Favorites (.ase) exports your starred colors. Download All N (.ase) exports everything the current search and family filter is showing.
  • How to use in Illustrator opens step-by-step instructions for loading the swatch file.

Step-by-step tasks

  1. Add a color to your shop palette

    1. Open WrapStudio → Colors and stay on Shop Colors.
    2. Click Add.
    3. Enter a name, pick or type the hex value, and add a Pantone code if you have one. The CMYK boxes fill in from the hex; type over them if your press numbers differ, and the hex moves to match.
    4. Click Add Color. The color appears in your shop grid.
  2. Save a customer's brand colors

    1. Open WrapStudio → Colors and switch to Brand Colors.
    2. Click Add Color, or the Add link on a customer's group to start with that customer already chosen and locked.
    3. Pick the customer if you haven't already, enter the color name and hex, add a Pantone code if you have one, and adjust CMYK if needed. Here the CMYK boxes fill in from the hex but do not push back to it.
    4. Click Add Color. The color is filed under that customer and appears on their record.
  3. Copy a shop color onto a customer

    1. Open Customers and the customer's record.
    2. In the Brand Colors panel, click From Library — it appears once your shop palette has at least one color.
    3. Click any shop color to import it. Colors whose hex the customer already has are dimmed and can't be picked again.
    4. Click Done.
  4. Find and export Wraptones for a design

    1. Open WrapStudio → Colors and switch to Wraptones.
    2. Search by name or click a family pill to narrow the grid.
    3. Star the colors you want to keep — the star sits on the top-right corner of each swatch.
    4. Click Download Favorites (.ase) for your starred set, or Download All N (.ase) to export exactly what the grid is showing.
    5. Click How to use in Illustrator if you need the import steps.
  5. Copy a color value to match a print

    1. Open the sub-tab you need (Shop Colors, Brand Colors, or Wraptones).
    2. On Shop and Brand colors, click the hex, CMYK, or Pantone line under the swatch. On Wraptones, click the swatch itself to copy its hex.
    3. Paste into your RIP or design software to match.

Settings & permissions

Who can see and use Colors

The Colors tab needs the Colors permission ("Color library & brand colors"). Of the built-in roles, Manager and Designer hold it; Production and Installer do not. Change that in Shop → Team → Roles & Permissions. In the Permission Matrix, permissions are rows and roles are columns — click the cell where the Colors row meets the role's column to turn it on or off.

Brand colors are the exception: anyone with the Customers permission can add, edit and delete them from a customer's record, even without Colors.

Plan availability

There is no plan gate on Colors. Shop Colors, Brand Colors and Wraptones are open on every plan and during the 7-day free trial. See plans.md.

Tips & common pitfalls

  • Three libraries, three purposes. Shop Colors = your house palette; Brand Colors = a specific customer's colors; Wraptones = the master catalog. Save a customer's brand color under Brand Colors (not Shop Colors) so it stays tied to them.
  • CMYK and Pantone are for matching. Fill them in when you know them — they're what production uses to match a print, not just the on-screen hex.
  • Wraptones is read-only, and carries no Pantone codes. You can favorite, copy and export from Wraptones, but you can't edit catalog entries. To make a Wraptones color your own, copy its hex and add it to Shop Colors or a customer's Brand Colors.
  • Wraptone favorites live in your browser. They are saved on the device you starred them on, not on your shop account — a colleague, or you on another computer, will see an empty favorites list.
  • "Download All" follows your filter. The second export button takes whatever the search box and family pill are currently showing, not the whole catalog. Clear the search and pick All first if you want everything.
  • The swatch file is CMYK. The .ase carries each color's CMYK values, so it lands in Illustrator ready for print — bring it in through the Swatches panel's Open Swatch Library → Other Library….
  • Deleting a shop color is instant. There is no "are you sure" step, and no undo.
  • Brand colors live with the customer too. If you can't find a brand color here, check the customer's record; the two views share the same data, and editing or deleting one happens there.
  • Your shop colors show up in Social posts. The Social tool in WrapStudio → Design offers your shop palette as one-click text-color swatches, so the palette you curate here keeps your posts on brand.
  • Studio — the WrapStudio hub Colors lives in, and the design work that uses these colors.
  • Customers — brand colors and brand assets are tied to customer records.
  • Team — where you grant the Colors permission.
  • Inventory — physical vinyl stock; your color choices map to the rolls you keep.
  • Jobs — the work where color matching matters.
  • Plans — what each plan includes.
  • Workflow map — where color selection fits the lifecycle.
